EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
3/21/09 - Pinellas County 4-H Demonstration Day, Pinellas County Extension Office
Congratulations to all of the County Demonstration Day participants! In the poster contest, Matthew was awarded a blue ribbon and Sam earned a red ribbon! JD earned a blue ribbon for his Poetry demonstration and Matthew earned a red ribbon for his dog ownership demonstration. Sonali, a 4-H2O friend, earned a red ribbon for her Organizer demo. Good job all!
3/14/09 - Average Joe's Demonstration Day and Club Meeting, Hammock Park
Mr. Robert gave us insight to the judges view and our club served as judges for their club members' demonstrations. They completed the judging sheets along with comments to give constructive criticism and also awarded the blue ribbons earned!
2/22/09 - Average Joe's 4-H Club Meeting, Hammock Park
We welcomed 5 visitors to our club meeting this month. We took care of our business meeting first and then had an exciting game of Parliamentary Jeopardy teaming up with our guests. Then we viewed a power point on putting together a demonstration. Next month is Demonstration Day!
2/13 - 15/09 - ILAW (Intermediate Leadership Adventure Weekend), Camp Ocala
All four of our Average Joe's Intermediate members (4-H age 11-13) attended this fun leadership training at Camp Ocala. Thank you to Mr. Craig for chaperoning this weekend event. Matthew, Tanner, JD and Erin had a great time!
2/5/09-2/16/09 - Florida State Fair /Florida 4-H Centennial kick-off /Mini-golf course
Matthew and his family volunteered for the kick-off of the year-long celebration "Florida 4-H: A Century of Youth Success". At the 2009 Florida State Fair, Florida 4-H Youth Development celebrates 100 years of teaching youth to become community leaders with their head, heart, hands and health in the Agriculture Hall of Fame building. With a mini golf course set-up, and District banners representing each 4-H district in Florida, attendees visited the mini-golf course for eleven days during the fair.
2/7/09-2/8/09 - Florida State Fair / 4-H Dog Show
Matthew demonstrated his skills as he competed in this year's dog show at the Florida State Fair. Matthew and his dog Felicity, received a 2nd place danish ribbon for Showmanship and Obedience, 3 Blue ribbons for their individual scores in Showmanship, Obedience, and Rally. All in all, he had a good experience and his scores were dramatically better than last year.
1/31/09 - District IX Florida 4-H Centennial Celebration/Selby Public Library, Sarasota, FL
Erin and JD showed visitors of the District IX Centennial Celebration a few physics experiments and invited them to take the Average Joe's Lego Challenge at the Average Joe's Rocketry Table. We left for Sarasota at 9 a.m. and returned by 3:30. Our table was a big hit. We also enjoyed visiting the tables from other District IX counties where we made cards to send to the troops, visited a touch tank, planted radishes, learned about healthy snacks and viewed County 4-H scrapbooks from the 60's.
1/25/09 - Average Joe's 4-H Club Meeting, Hammock Park
During our January club meeting, we held our monthly business meeting, worked on our Rocketry project and did experiments on "lift". We then worked on our poster contest posters before heading to the playground.

Matthew and JD attended weebly website training so we would be able to bring you this fabulous website!

12/6/08 Average Joe's 4-H Club Meeting/Installation of Officers/Rocketry Project
The Average Joe's 4-H Club stayed busy during December. We started our month by holding our Officer Training and Installation of Officers. Our officers are:
President - Matthew, Vice-President/Secretary - Cole, Treasurer/Reporter - JD, Historian - Erin, Sergeant At Arms - Sam, Demonstration Officer - Tanner, Recreation Officer - Tommy
After reviewing the poster contest rules, we brainstormed some awesome ideas to start working on.
We also began work on our club project, Rocketry, organizing our project books, setting goals and conducting experiments on Newton's Laws of Physics.
11/15/08 4-H Marine Ecology Competition
Matthew participated in the 4-H Marine Ecology Competition.
11/16/08 Average Joe's 4-H Club 1st Meeting of 2009
A total of 5 members attended our first meeting of the year. Two are Average Joe veterans, one is an eight year 4-H veteran, and two are completely new to 4-H. We held our first business meeting, nominated and elected officers, selected club t-shirts, and decided to collect a monthly dues of 50 cents per member.
11/1/08 Pinellas County 4-H Open House and Apple Cook-Off
The Average Joe's 4-H Club participated in this year's open house by hosting the Rocketry table. Visitors to our table were able to participate in science experiments showing Newton's Laws of Physics as demonstrated by JD and Matthew, and then sign up to build soda bottle rockets and launch them later in the day. Visitors were also welcome to compete in our Lego Challenge. You would have one minute to be creative with a limited number of Legos and winners were awarded a small lego kit or a pocket etch-a-sketch. The challenge was very popular.
